A family changes according to each phase of its life cycle. Puberty change seems to have an especially great influence on a family, which leads to the transition of the family itself. This study attempts to seize the family transition with puberty change from a positive standpoint, by interviewing mothers who represent their families. As a result, four points are to be indicated : 1) a lowering of cohesion; 2) changes in authority structure and the relaxation of control; 3) participation of father in the family; and 4) reorganization of couple relationship. Moreover, it is suggested that although the family becomes temporarily unstable and falls into a critical situation during the above transition, it enters upon another stable phase thereafter. Companionship based on mutual independence characterizes the latter phase.
