This paper argues that the Confucian ethic of an economic leader, Shibusawa Eiichi, in the Meiji-Taisho period of Japan, sustained Japanese modernization very much. In modernization process, it is very important that political and economic leaders have high morality in their management of the state and the firms. Shibusawa advocated 'The Rongo-Soroban theory' that is the theory of compatibility of Gi (Justice) and Ri (Profit) on the basis of "The Analects of Confucius". His theory was beyond the spirit of pre-capitalistic merchants, and contributed to the modern entrepreneurship in Japanese economy.
