Bogomilstvo (Bogomil heretical movement), a heretical religious sect arose in Bulgaria during the reign of Tsar Peter (927〜969). It was one of the most significant religious and social movements in the history of the Balkan Peninsula and Medieval Europe. This movement spread into other countries, for example. North Italy, South France, Russia etc., and influenced respective peoples. In the Balkan Peninsula, Bogomilstvo spread westwards to Bosnia via Serbia from Bulgaria, and exerted a powerful influence upon the Bosnian people. Between the tenth and the twelfth centuries Bogomilstvo penetrated into Serbia. From Serbia the heresy moved to Bosnia where the ruler Ban Kulin (1180〜1204) received the exiles, and the new faith spread so that by the end of the twelfth century the ruling family, majority of the nobles and the entire population had embraced it. In the thirties of the thirteenth century, Bosnia was entirely a Bogomilstvo's country where the heads of State and Church professed the new faith. Bogomilstvo thus became the Bosnian State Religion. But after the invasion of the Ottoman Empire to Bosnia in 1463, Bogomilstvo was rapidly extinguished. This article tries to look for the cause of Bogomilstvo is disappearance inthe Balkan Peninsula, especially in Bosnia.
