This paper is concerned with the effectiveness of preloading techniques for controlling post-construction secondary consolidation settlement. Comparison of field secondary consolidation settlement with predicted one based on laboratory tests : In the field, settlement observations were obtained on settlement plates throughout the entire precompression period and during the period of reloading. According to the test results, when the preloading techniques have been performed, it was expected to decrease secondary consolidation settlement. The same amount of secondary consolidation settlement was observed under the design loads, however, as normally consolidated.
