• Understanding the personality of human being has been considered important in moral theology in recent years. The aim of this study is to find a new aspect on "person(or personality)" as a carrier of ethical values through researching M. Scheler's theory on person especially in his main ethical writing "Formalism and Material Value Ethics".Various conceptions of person have appeared through the history of western thought about humanity. Most of those were defined as being linked with rationality of human mind. On the other hand, Scheler characterized person as a subjective unity of various human actions, and defined that person is a concrete, essential, existential unity in itself, of various actions being different from each other in essence.By Scheler's understanding, person carries an absolute value based on participating to God as a infinite person and to His actions as affection to human beings. Person carries not only a universal value in itself but also ethical value as an existential unity of actions Essentially different actions individualize humans as separate persons. Person is made an individual by its own actions. Therefore each person is unique and oriented to realize its own peculiar value. This fact is the basis of questioning human morality. Ethical value depends on fulfilling and developing personality and realizing its own particular value. Something that promotes fulfilling personality and realizing personal value is ethically good, and something that obstructs these is evil. Scheler calls the realization of person's particular value "salvation".Human beings live their lives in hope as a free and subjective person to be characterized by their own actions aiming at the realization of particular personal value and the fulfilment of parsonality participating to actions and works of God as an infinite person and the resource of all values.
