In order to study the properties of the cation exchange membrane with phospate group, the author synthesized the membrane from the Vinylon cloth with phosphate group. The membrane which is produced by soaking the Vinylon cloth for 20 hours at 50℃ in the mix of the volume ratio of CHCl_3 2: POCl_3 1 is mechanically strong enough to be of good practical use, and it has an exchange capacity of 2.5m. eq./gr. The membrane potential and electric conductivity of the membrane concerned increase as the time of phosphatization passes, as is shown in Figs. (1) and (2), and they become almost invariable after 10 hours of phosphatization. When potassium chloride and sodium chloride are added respectively to the membrane of Ca-type, the adsorbed amount at the exchange equilibrium is larger in the case of potassium chloride than in the case of sodium chloride, as is shonin Fig. (3). In the respective salt solutions of Na^+, K^+, Ca^<+2> and Mg^<+2>, when ions diffuse through the membrane with phophate grup, their diffusion coefficient is larger in the case of uni-valent ions than in the case of bi- valent ions, as is shown in Fig. (4). In the uni-valent salt solutions, when ions diffuse thrugh the membrane with phosphate group, their diffusion coefficient is larger in the case of potassium chloride than in the case of sodium chloride. In the mixed salt solution of potassium chloride and calcium chloride and in that of sodium chloride and calcium chloride respectively, when ions diffuse through the membrane with phosphate group, their diffusion coefficient is larger in the case of potassium ion than in the case of sodium ion, as is shown in Fig. (5).
