The drift-flux model adopted in the present study basically treats the two phases as a homogeneous mixture while at the same time takes account of the relative movement between the phases with the concept of a multi-dimensional drift velocity. It is simpler than the two-fluid model with reasonable accuracy, and is easy to be applied to many applications. In this study, a two-dimensional numerical simulation based on the drift-flux model was performed to analyze the two-phase flow structure in a tank filled with saturated water. By comparing the numerical results with the experimental observation, the validity of the drift-flux model for the case of two-dimensional two-phase flows was investigated.
