Since the seminal work by Peacock and Wiseman (1961), many researchers have examined the question of the existence of the displacement effects on government expenditures. Recently, in these studies, the displacement effect is interpreted econometrically as the existence of structural change. However, very few studies have examined the displacement effects on government revenues. In this paper, we examine the displacement effects on government revenues and expenditures for the period 1957-1991 in Japan. It is shown that the analyses of the displacement effects on revenues are also meaningful.
