The study examined cell kinetics and the proliferation process of the endometrium during the proliferative phase, secretory phase and menopause by DNA analysis using the monoclonal antibody of bromodeoxyuridine. The endometrium after mechanical currettage, adenomatous hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma were compared with the normal endometrium. In the glandular epithelium, the highest rate of Sphase cells was recorded on the 5th to 7th day of the menstruation cycle in the upper one third of the endometrium. On the other hand, in the stroma, the highest rate was recorded on 11th and 14th day. After the middle secretory phase, both of them decreased near the 0 level. S phase cell in both the gland and stroma were always higher around the surface area than in the lower area of the endometrium. The number of the S phase cell obtained by the mechanical curettage was higher than that in normal control at 5th to 7th day in the upper one third area and it was similar to that seen in adenocarcinoma. This study showed that the cell kinetics in the early proliferative phase was more active and similar to that of neoplasia of the endometrium.
