Phthalin reaction was carried out on distilled water and those given positive reaction were colorimetrically compared with the copper sulfate standard solution. This permitted approximation of the amount of copper contained, though not to the extent of quantitative determination. This is a simple reaction and could be carried out in hospital pharmacies. When distilled water giving positive phthalin reaction is used as a solvent, matter of storage must be taken into considerations if the solute is as stable a compound as phthalin.
