Tsuyu-no-Gorobe was a professional comic storyteller during the Genroku period in the Edo era. His last work, "Rokyu Okimiyage", consists of his short funny stories has four characteristics namely 'direct narration at the end', 'gesticulation', 'voice mimicry', and 'continuation of direct narration'. These features being a direct result of his personal performance. Due to the short length of funny stories, it was difficult for storytellers to make a living. However repertoire included not only funny stories but also preaching, discourse, and mimicry of kabuki.
