Polyesters were prepared by the polycondensation of a wide variety of contents of dicarboxylates [Dimethylterephthalate (DMT), Dimethylbiphenyldicarboxylate (DMBO] with Diols [Dioxymethyl-biphenyl (DOMB), 1,4-Butylene glycol(1,4BG)]. Their thermal properties were investigated by means of a polarizing optical microscopic observation and DSC. Although the transition temperature of the polymer obtained from the liquid crystalline compounds DMBC and DOMB showed too high to mold or to spin from its melt, the addition of DMT and 1,4BG to them lowered the transition temperatuture of the resulting polymers. Especially, the polyesters composed of the mole ratio of DMT/DMBC/DOMB/1,4BG = 1 / 9 / 1 / 9 showed the liquid crystalline state between 213 and 277℃ and had the molecular weight of 99000,which might be suitable for practical application.
