Based on hybrid virtual work principle, a numerical method applicable to elastic and visco-elastic progressive failure analysis for crystal structure was developed. To describe the deformation of crystal structure rigidity multiplier of elements α and that between elements β are defined in this paper. Various accuracy analyses demonstrate that the error of this method can be reduced to 5% for both elastic and visco-elastic problems when β is 10. Finaly, the analysis results of a crustal movement model are presented, which shows that this method seems highly effective to the progressive failure analysis of crystal structure including the tensile failure.
