The paper describes a methodology for assessing the impact resistant RC slab thickness subjected to the crash of a cylindrical thin shell with a soft pipe. Assuming that the cylindrical thin shell behaves as a liquid flow and the inside pipe behaves as a soft body in case of impact against RC slabs, the momentum equation is simplified to obtain the impact load for the crash. Slab thickness evaluations are performed to prevent the global flexural failure and perforation failure of the slab against the fluid crash and the local perforation failure of the slab against the soft pipe crash. Impact resistant RC slab thickness is decided to be the largest value of the above three cases of slab thickness evaluations. An example problem is analyzed and reviewed.
