This paper reports the results of a research project comparing Japanese and Chinese female employee attitudes. Japan and China are very different countries with unique histories, cultural backgrounds, value systems, and beliefs. Therefore, it is hypothesized that Japanese women have attitudes which are different from those of Chinese women. The questions focus on 5 dimensions : 1) employment conditions, 2) employee attitudes, 3) household sharing, 4) level of satisfaction, and 5) ideal and real life-courses. 752 Japanese and 449 Chinese women answered the questionnaires and the results are compared. Similarities are found as well as differences, but there are more differences between Japanese and Chinese women. Therefore, the diver-gence hypothesis was supported.
