Research on the Optimization of Ceramic Gas Turbine/Electric Hybrid System for City Bus

This paper describes a simulating analysis on fuel economy of a series hybrid engine system with a high efficient Ceramic Gas Turbine (CGT) for an urban bus. Total fuel economy, regenerated energy and operating characteristics of each component (a CGT-engine, a generator, a battery and a driving motor) at every instant for a given driving cycle were analyzed. The results show that : (1) On the fuel economy of the system, battery capacity and driving cycle have great effects. (2) The fuel economy on the urban bus driving cycle is decreased by 39% compared with that of the 10-mode cycle. (3) Efficient regeneration of available kinetic energy is the most critical. (4) Effect of idle-stop concept on fuel economy under the urban driving cycle is estimated about 11%.
