It is well known that the hole machining by EDM using straight electrode pipe gives different hole diameters at inlet and outlet of the workpiece. The mechanism of these shapes being formed is strongly related to the effect of wear of electrode and eroded particles. This paper describes the method of hole machining by EDM using stepped electrode pipe for the improvement of difference in diameters of the hole. The main results obtained are as follows : (1) Difference in diameters of the hole are improved by using stepped electrode pipe. (2) Hole of desired diameter can be drilled by using stepped electrode pipe. (3) Hole machining from rough machining to finishing are possible by using stepped electrode pipe.
