A Study on the Method of Part Module Design for an Assembly Machine

When plural products are assembled on an automatic assembly machine, a problem arises regarding the selection of parts to be mounted on the machine to minimize the number of part exchanges. This is the problem of part module design. The optimal solution for the problem has already been shown. The solution, however, is not practicable because of a tremendous number of part modules in usual cases. This study proposes a heuristic method of the problem by grouping particularly nothing community of parts. The proposed method takes the balance in the job time of the machine for each part module into consideration.
