Our negative pressure pneumatic servo system is operated in the region ranging between the atmospheric pressure and the negative pressure produced by a vacuum pump. Because of the small working force on the piston, we have employed a couple of glass medical injectors as the low friction power cylinders. The working air is regulated by a couple of 3-port solenoid valves with on-off action. Accordingly, limit cycles appear naturally. However, the limit cycles can be suppressed by a proper feedback compensation to the on-off action, and around the stationary state, the control will be almost in PWM mode. By this proper feedback compensation the transient response to the step input also can be improved. The maximum negative pressure is set at-0.027 MPa.
