The heating mechanism of ions due to lower hybrid waves is studied computationally. In the usual lower hybrid wave heating of tokamaks, almost all the wave energy transferred to ions is consumed in producing the high-energy tail. This occurs even in the presence of the moderate parametric instability. In most cases, therefore, the main heating mechanism must be reduced to collisional relaxations from the high-energy tail of ion to the bulk.
