Four ways of determining the elongation ratio are demonstrated : that is, measurements of the electron temperature and density profiles, the magnetic surface, the current profiles, and the MHD instabilities. These methods are applied to the study of the effect of the decay index on the elongation ratio in a non-circular tokamak TNT-A.
