Experiments are made on the stability of a quasi-steady, high beta, collisional plasma in a multiple mirror machine. For plasma beta lower than about 15%, a strong density oscillation accompanied by magnetic field fluctuation is observed to propagate with azimuthal mode number m = 1 in the direction of the electron diamagnetic drift. The measured frequency is in a reasonable agreement with the electron diamagnetic drift frequency. It is sure this drift-type instability is due to the periodic structure of the system.
