Magnetic surfaces and drift surfaces of a single charged particle of a stellarator field are analysed by using an average method. The dependences of the rotational transform angle and the magnetic well depth on the parameters of current configuration of the stellarator field are studied in case of long and short pitch of helical windings to find the optimum parameters. The relation of magnetic and drift surfaces are examined and a condition for their small deviation is deduced. The properties of isobar surfaces are examined.
