End loss of a hot electron plasma from a mirror machine caused by the interaction with residual gases is analysed by resolving the Boltzman equation for the diffusion process in a velocity space into the loss cone. The equation is treated in a general way for an arbitrary scattering function and the inelastic scattering of the particle and the resulting energy loss are taken into account. The predicted energy distribution of escaping particles, the e-folding time of the confined plasma and the time evolution of the anisotropy in velocity space are compared with the experimental results in the system "Bille-en-Tete" in a good agreement and the mechanism of the end loss in this system is well identified.
