Finite amplitude effects on propagation and damping of ion acoustic waves are studied experimentally in a cesium plasma produced by surface ionization. For large-amplitude waves, the phase velocity is increased with the voltage of continuous sinusoidal signals for wave excitation, but does not depend on the local wave amplitude. The damping rate becomes large with the exciting voltage near the exciting grid. At a distant place, however, the wave damping is small compared with the linear Landau. damping and is accompanied with a weak amplitude oscillation.
