The purpose of this study was to identify whether fluconazole might have any effect on thyroid function. Twenty-six rats in two groups were included in this study. Groups were designed as follows. Group A : Control group ; group B : 13 rats treated with oral fluconazole (60 mg/kg twice daily) for thirty days. At the beginning, 15^<th> and 30^<th> days of therapy, serum T_3,T_4 and TSH levels were studied. At the end of the therapy, rats were killed and thyroid specimens were examined by light microscopy. In this study, serum T_3,T_4 and TSH levels of 15^<th> and 30^<th> day of therapy were decreased compared with control group. And there were statistically significant differences in the serum T_3 levels of 30^<th> day of therapy, serum T_4 levels of 15^<th> and 30^<th> day of therapy and serum TSH levels of 15^<th> day and 30^<th> day between the therapy and control group. However, serum T_3,T_4 and TSH levels of 15^<th> and 30^<th> day of therapy were in normal ranges. On the other hand, no significant difference was found in the histopathological analysis of the thyroid glands between two groups. On the basis of these findings, we demonstrated that fluconazole had no effect on thyroid function in the rat.
