The work described in this paper summarizes the design and initial field testing of a point support foundation system for structures placed on snow. The foundation members consist of augers which can easily be driven into the snow by hand. A load frame and instrumentation package located at the Greenland Ice Sheet Program-Phase II (GISP II) are described, as well as the initial proof-of-concept testing prior to field deployment.
