Typical astroglia and labeled astroglia one hour or seven days after the injection of ^3H-thymidine were morphologically compared by both electron microscopy and electron microscopic radioautography. In the experiment one hour after the injection, most labeled astroglia had the dark nucleus and cytoplasm. There were usually numerous free ribosomes but a few, small bundles of filaments. On the other hand, most labeled astroglia, in the experiment seven days after the injection, possessed the rather light nucleus and cytoplasm. There were generally large, straight bundles of filaments but less amounts of free ribosomes. This sort of cells was rather similar to the typical astroglia. It was concluded that the diagnostic features of astroglia could be changeable during the lapse of time ; astroglia, in general, decreased their cell density and the amount of free ribosomes but increased the number of bundles of filaments.
