<Short Communications>A Study of Perifascicular Atrophy among Biopsies of Adult Inflammatory Muscular Diseases

• Author, recently, examined biopsied muscles from 6 adult cases of inflammatory muscle diseases, dermatomyositis and polymyositis. There was a case which showed a significant perifascicular atrophy (P.A.), and the other ones revealed it in very minor degree. P.A. has been pointed out in the cases of childhood dermatomyositis in which vascular changes are most essential to be a causative factor. There are the other various changes which are essentially the same as the reported in references. Among the changes comparison between P.A. cases and the others was done in this communication. From the standpoints of the present findings vascular changes seem not to be necessarily essential to produce P.A. in adult polymyositis.
