The production rate of pollen grains of Castanea crenata in a secondary Quercus serrata forest was determined in 1990-1993, based on the number of pollen grains per male catkin and annual fall rate of male catkins. The latter parameter was measured using six litter traps. The annual production rate of pollen grains in 1990-1992 was 9.7×10^＜11＞-3.7×10^＜12＞no.ha^＜-1＞yr^＜-1＞. The mean value for the four years was 2.0×10^＜12＞no.ha^＜-1＞yr^＜-1＞.
