Determining Operating Conditions for Continuous Free Radical Polymerization with Specified Values of Molecular Weight Distribution Parameters

We investigate the issue of determining the operating conditions needed to produce polymers with specified values of molecular weight distribution parameters in a continuous free radical polymerization reactor. Structural analysis of the mathematical model reveals that we cannot determine a set of operating conditions that simultaneously satisfies the specified values of the number-average molecular weight (Mn) and polydispersity index (PDI) in the case of free radical polymerization without the termination-by-combination reaction.
