Material properties and forming technologies for ceramic tubes for a HID lamp are reported. Translucent alumina is applied to ceramic metal halide lamps with benefits of better corrosion resistance and higher operation temperatures compared to quartz glass. The alumina tubes have been manufactured in co-firing with three or five ceramic parts. Newly developed slurry and precious forming technologies give the "One-body" seamless tubes, which improve thickness uniformity and lighting performance. Latest alumina under development is briefly explained.
