There is going to be enormous changes in the home according to the new technology and the paradigm based on the concept of the ubiquitous technology. Applications for the ubiquitous technology in the home are getting diverse and people want to spend more time in their home than before. It is, however, difficult to consider whether the new technology supports human behaviors and quality of life. In this paper, it suggests the smart home guideline to evaluate quality of life in the home environment. It classifies all kind of ubiquitous technologies and those using scenarios into the category of home automation; communication and socialization; rest, refreshing, entertainment and sport; and working and learning. Measuring effectiveness is based on theories of human motivation, environmental affordance, human behavior models, etc. Finally, it suggests a guideline for evaluating smart homes developed or smart home projects in terms of two big criteria such as smart home technology and smart home surroundings.
