With the advent of the ubiquitous networking era, MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network) has been a key research issue. The routing algorithm for MANET is one of the most important issues to be addressed, and has been addressed in many research literatures. The main drawbacks of the MANET routing algorithm are heavy control overhead, lack of centralized control, and poor network scalability. As a solution to the conventional MANET, we consider a new hybrid wireless network architecture, which is called a Zone Master based MANET. In the Zone Master based MANET, the Zone Master takes the responsibility of coordinating other Ad hoc nodes as a central control node. For the Zone Master based MANET, we propose an efficient routing algorithm. We compare the performance of the Zone Master MANET that of conventional MANET in terms of control overhead, network throughput as well as management complexity.
