Experimental Observation of Ionization Area Inside Ionization Grid of the Vacuum Gauge

The time-of-flight (ToF) measurement together with the energy analysis provides us with information concerning the ionization area inside a grid. An ionization gauge with a large-angle deflector has been used to measure a sequence of ToF spectra as a function of the ion energy in 6×10<SUP>-10</SUP> Pa. These data suggest that the ionization area inside the grid is restricted to a narrow region owing to the focusing of the electron beam.
