• Thermodynamic aspects of the photoinduced surface deposition (PSD) phenomenon have been investigated to reveal the compositional dependence of the PSD effect and its irreversibility. The free energy of the (Ag2S)y(AsS)1-y quasibinary system was calculated as a function of Ag content. The thermodynamic problems concerning the PSD phenomenon in Ag–As–S glasses can be solved based on the free energy of the quasibinary system.
