The conductance of hexadecylpyridinium chloride (HPyCl) and tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) mixtures over the entire mole fraction range of HPyCl (αHPyCl) was measured in aqueous poly (vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) solution containing 1, 5, and 10wt% PVP at 30°C. Each conductivity curve showed two breaks corresponding to two aggregation throughout the whole mole fraction range of HPyCl and TTAB mixtures except for pure TTAB, for which a single break corresponding to conventional cmc was observed. In the former case, the first break is close to conventional cmc and attributed to polymer free micelle formation. The second break was due to polymer bound micellar aggregates. From conductivity data, various micellar parameters in the presence of PVP were determined and are discussed from the standpoint of micelle-polymer interactions. The mixing behavior of HPyCl and TTAB corresponding to the first break in the presence of PVP was ideal for the most part and identical to that in pure water. The origin of polymer bound micellar aggregates at the second break was considered due to HPyCl-PVP interactions even in mixed micelles.
