The paper describes a vibrating-wire densimeter designed for the measurement of fluids density at pressures up to 100 MPa. The densimeter operates with buoyancy effect exerted on a solid weight immersed in the test fluid to change the resonant frequency of a thin metallic wire which suspends the weight. The resonant frequency is related to the fluid density by means of working equations available. Results are presented for n-heptane at pressures up to 100 MPa near room temperature. The results show that the present densimeter can be operated within an uncertainty of about ±0. 4% at the elevated pressures concerned here.
