Structural and Electrical Properties of 1,8-Bis(3-hydroxypropylamino) and 1-(3-Hydroxypropylamino)–9,10-anthraquinone Films

1,8-Bis(3-hydroxypropylamino)–9,10-anthraquinone (1) and 1-(3-hydroxypropylamino)–9,10-anthraquinone (2) compounds have been synthesized and their films grown by thermal evaporation onto a glass substrate maintained at different temperatures. The films prepared thus have been studied for their structural, electrical and optical properties. Observations reveal that the crystallinity of the films increases at higher substrate temperatures. Grains as large as 0.94 μm are obtained in the case of compound 1 films deposited at 333 K. The electrical conductivity and carrier concentration of these films increase at higher substrate temperatures. Significantly, these films show a nearly four fold larger decrease in resistivity per 10° increase in temperature than the previously reported films of anthraquinone and its derivatives. The analysis of optical absorption measurements of the films indicates that the optical band gap lies in the range of 1.55–1.67 eV.
