Observation of microtremors at 200 sites in Kumamoto City were made. The author propose new system for determining the kind of ground on the basis of the results of microtremors observation. The author propose the equation to estimate mean shear wave velocity from surface to 30 m depth based on the results of microtremors observation. The author made the map of mean shear wave velocity distribution in Kumamoto city. Kanai K. and T. Tanaka's A, B proposals are famous for determining the kind of ground by using microtremors. By using the mean shear wave velocity and mean geological years, the author made C proposal for determining the kind of ground. C proposal is useful for seismic microzoning by using mean shear wave velocity and geological informations. In this paper, the author made the comparison and check between the results of C proposal and the kind of ground in kumamoto City. Finally, the author discuss the mutual relations of ground period, mean shear wave velocity, and mean geological year to surface ground classification.
