The single emulsion film stabilized by tetradecyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide in dodecane phase has been investigated by varying KBr concentration. The contact angle between the emulsion film and the surrounding bulk meniscus in the capillary has been measured with so-called expansion method at 298.15 K. The result suggests that the transition from the common black film (CBF) to Newton black film (NBF) occurs at a threshold KBr concentration (0.3 mol dm^<-3>). Furthermore, the film tension of emulsion film has been evaluated from the contact angle and interfacial tension at the bulk interface by using the force balance equation. From viewpoint of thermodynamics, this film tension is one of important film properties to investigate the thin liquid film. In addition, the difference between the film tension and the bulk interfacial tension, which is caused by the interaction in the thin film between the interfaces, has been compared between the emulsion and foam film systems. The result shows that the difference between γ^f and 2γ is much smaller for the emulsion film. This smaller difference can be rationalized by taking into account the different structure of emulsion and foam films in the calculation of the van der Waals interaction energy.
