The conditions that the pressure of a closed system p increases with the specific volume v of the system are clarified. The polytropic exponent n defined by ―(v/p)(dp/dv) becomes negative only when Cp > Cn > Cv . Here, Cp, Cn and Cv denote the isobaric, polytropic and isochoric specific heats, respectively. Relationships of the dimensionlessamounts of heat and work exchanged between a closed system and its circumstance to a specific volume ratio yielding apolytropic change with a negative exponent are also discussed. The polytropic changes with a negative exponent werenamed super-isobaric changes.
