When KCl crystal is rapidly grown from the met， the crystal is c1eavedinto fragments. It was previously reported that on these surfaces severalstep lines are observed， around which several macroscpic c1usters of opticaldefects are concentrated， In this paper， the concentration is studied inrelation to the direction of the step line， as follows(1) the spectrum of the optical defect colony α is measured and the concentrationofα on the step line is confirmed. (2) The spectrum of α variesaccording to the angle θ between the direction of the step line and <100>direction. (3) Optical absorption depending on the impurity Pb also variesaccording to θ. (4) Both θ-dependences mentioned in (2) and (3) suggest usthat the densities of various elementary defects are different with each otheraccording to θ.
