「規格統一は諦めていない。だが、残念ながら時間切れだ」（東芝の藤井美英上席常務）——。 今年9月末、東芝は次世代DVD規格「HD DVD」のプレーヤーを年末に国内で発売すると正式に表明した。次世代DVDは、DVDの3〜5倍のデータ記憶容量を持ち、ハイビジョン映像を2時間以上、収録できる光ディスクだ。
