NTT地域会社が定額IPサービスの提供スケジュールを明らかにした。一般ユーザーの申し込み受付は10月上旬に開始する。多くのプロバイダは活用に意欲的だが，料金の高さと品質面の情報不足に不満の声が出ている。 NTT東日本とNTT西日本は8月25日，インターネット接続事業者（プロバイダ）向けにIP接続サービス（仮称）の説明会を開催した。
