The effects of abrasive partic1es on the wear under oi1 1ubricationwere studied, and a four-ba11-test machine and oi1 contained fineabrasive partic1es a 1itt1e were used. The resu1ts are summarized asfo11ows;1) The wear rate increases with the increasing size of abrasivegrains within a sma11 grain size range, and becomes constant when thegrain size exceeds about 5 μm.2) When the mean diameter of grains is 1arger than about 5 μm, thewear increases with the increase of 1oad.3) Abrasive grains are shattered at the narrow gap between sphericalsurfaces, and then drawn into the gap between frictiona1 surfaces.4) The areas of frictional surfaces are sma11 and covered withscratch marks uniformly.
