The effect of abrasive particles on the wear under oil lubricationwas studied, and a cup-and-disc type test machine and oi1 containingfine abrasive particles a 1itt1e are used. The resu1ts are summarizedas follows:1) Abrasive partic1es are embeded mainly into the softer specimenand the harder specimen is chiefly abrased and so its wear volumeis larger.2) Genera11y, the wear rate increases with the increase of loador grit size up to certain va1ues respective1y. Beyond the conditionsthe wear rate decreases.3) Wear surfaces become rougher with increase of the wear rate,and are 1ike the adhesive wear surfaces.4) Under the oi1 1ubrication containing fine abrasive particles alittle, the load supporting rate of partic1es is small as comparedwith that of the wear surface asperities, and so particles cause tohasten the adhesive wear by making fresh nucleuses of adhesion byscratching rather than direct abrasive wear.
