The effect of isothermal annealing in Zn vapor or vacuum at600℃ for various annealing times of the Bridgman-grownsnl-xMnxTe crystals (degenerate magnetic semiconductor) hasbeen studied by magnetic susceptibility and spin resonancemeasurements over the temperature range 77-300 K. Theannealing in Zn vapor followed by quenching in water is foundto be very effective for the reduction of Sn vacancies andlattice strains, leading to the observation of well-identifiedEPR spectra compared with those of the as-grown crystals.It is also found that there is no appreaciable differencein the magnetic susceptibility data between the as-grown andZn-annealed crystals, in which Mn ions have nearly identicalspin quantum number equal to the free ion value of 5/2.
