A theoretical consideration is given on the viscoelastic deformation and flow of polycrystalline ceramics at elevated temperatures. Modeling for the fundamental rheological processes at grain boudaries with a interfacial phase as well as for the grain-boundary structures lead to a nonlinear Maxwell constitutive equation. The equation predicts a strain-dependent viscous flow in creep deformation, and an internal strain-dependent stress relaxation.
