MgAl_2O_4 spinel powderes were prepared from heterogeneous alkoxide solution containing fine MgO powders. Two kinds of MgO powders were used. The mean diameter of MgO was 10nm and 100nm, respectively. The purpose of this work is to examine the influence of particle size as a starting material of MgO on properties of spinel precursors and spinel powders. The precursours prepared with larger MgO powders were found to crystallize to spinel at higher temperature. Polycrystalline spinel with a density more than 99% of the theoretical was obtained at a sintering temperature of 1450℃, even using spinel powders prepared large MgO powder.
